UFC's Mike Russow signs with Overtime MMA

UFC heavyweight Mike Russow (12-1) is training at Overtime MMA in preparation for his upcoming heavyweight fight at UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans on May 29 th , 2010 to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The fight will be against Todd Duffee (6-0).

"I've always heard about Overtime, wrestling in high school and in college," said Russow.  "I wanted to sharpen up on my wrestling, and I think these guys are the best around.  I know they run a good program and I want to be a part of it.  They are very good coaches and I've learned a lot.

"I think [the wrestling taught here] puts you in good situations," Russow said.  "I think it's MMA-focused, and it transitions real well into MMA."

"I think Overtime is a class act.  Everyone here is a stand-up guy, I think.  They're real professional.  It's something I was missing at the other places I was at.  Everyone's real involved, and I like it a lot."

When asked if Mike would recommend Overtime to other fighters of his level, he replied, "For sure.  I'd recommend it to anybody."

Russow, a Chicago cop, built up his professional record primarily by doing the local Chicago MMA circuit.  He recently spent a week training with UFC superstar Brock Lesnar in Minnesota before settling in with his training camp for his upcoming bout with Duffee.

Following an NJCAA All-American season at Lincoln College, Russow was a three-time NCAA Division 1 National Qualifier while wrestling at Eastern Illinois as a heavyweight.  Prior to that, he attended high school at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School.

Mike most recently fought in UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira, where he won a victory via unanimous decision over Justin McCully.  Russow has a dozen professional MMA victories to go with just one loss, and McCully was one of just two opponents to go the distance with Russow.  Nine of Mike Russow's twelve victories have ended in the first round.
