Overtime MMA is pleased to announce the addition of an elite boxing instructor to our core of high-level instructors.
Former Cuban national boxing team member Gustavo Pique is coming aboard as the lead boxing instructor. With his tremendous experience competing and sparring with fighters on a world class level in both the professional and amateur ranks, Gustavo instantly raises the level of boxing and striking instruction available to our members.
A very dedicated coach who loves the sport of boxing, his resume is extensive. Some of the highlights are listed below:
Gustavo Pique
- Grew up training in the elite Cuban boxing system that produced many successful international boxers, fighting 13 bouts per year from age 12 to age 20.
- Won a Silver Medal in Playa Giron Tournament at age 17, making him the second best welterweight fighter in all of Cuba.
- Coached by three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Teofilo Stevenson.
- Competed on Cuban National Team in multiple international tournaments from age 17 to age 20.
- Cuban World Team alternate at 1978 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Belgrade.
- After nine years in the Cuban National Institute of Sports (INDER), spent a year sparring with fighters around the world before arriving in the United States.
- Professional Muay Thai fighter and Shotokan fighter.
- Former training partners include elite fighters such as Felix Trinidad, Meldrick Taylor, Alberto Cortez, Angel Manfredy, and many others.
Gustavo will be an integral part of Overtime MMA's fall schedule, with both daytime and nighttime classes. We encourage all members and guests who want to raise the level of their striking game, want to learn good self-defense, or just want a good cardio workout to get involved with Gustavo immediately!
