Oak Lawn Bruce Guevara won the most difficult skill level in grappling competition as a flyweight (under 135 pounds) to highlight a big day for Overtime MMA at the NAGA tournament held in Oak Lawn, Illinois on April 24, 2010. In all, Overtime MMA brought home 19 top-three finishes, including 10 championships, 5 second-place finishes, and 4 third-place finishes. Overtime MMA had 18 athletes competing in about 30 brackets.
I am very pleased with the team and their results at the tournament, said Overtime MMA Coach Mark Turner. Everyone came out to win and finish matches, which is different from the usual Midwest grappling mentality of score and stall.' I'm proud that we are solidifying our place as one of the area's top academies with another great showing at the NAGA. Big congrats to all the students, they train hard and fight hard. That is a major factor in how we were able to bring home so many medals on Saturday.
Also, I want to say thanks to the owners and management at Overtime. The support I get in our shared vision of creating a top team is second to none.
The kids did awesome at NAGA, offered Overtime MMA Coach Mike Corey. We brought three kids and won three medals, including two first-places. Everybody fought hard and showed great toughness.
NAGA is as tough as it gets for grappling tournaments without getting on an airplane, added Overtime MMA Manager Koy Kosek. If you want to learn competitive Brazilian jiu-jitsu or grappling in the Naperville and Aurora area, our gym is the best option for you no matter what your age or skill level.
Special congratulations to Joel Mantia, who won a 1st place medal, Tim Walters who won a 2nd place and a 3rd place medal, and Justin Holzworth,
who won a 1st and a 3rd place medal. (Justin's 3rd place medal came after he conceded a semifinals bout to a teammate in the same bracket.) It was the first tournament for all three athletes.
