Buffalo Wild Wings Member of the Month: Bruce Guevara (November 2009)

Each month, Overtime MMA will feature a member of the month, which is sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings in Plainfield, IL. The member of the month will receive a $20 food certificate to dine at BWW.

The Buffalo Wild Wings Member of the Month for November 2009 is Bruce Guevara.

Bruce is currently a student at Northern Illinois University, majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish. After playing football and running track for four years in high school, he came across the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after graduation and fell in love with it. A group of friends introduced him to instructor Mark Turner, and Bruce has been training with Mark ever since.

Although Bruce has only been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for two and a half years, he has already amassed a long list of accomplishments. In his first year of training, Bruce earned 3 gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals in the beginner/white belt divisions of grappling tournaments such as NAGA Chicago, Corral's Combat Classic, and Midwest Championship.

Bruce received his blue belt in a little over one year of training, which reflects the amount of work he puts into the sport, as well as his athletic abilities. After being promoted, Bruce has won six gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals in the intermediate/blue belt divisions of NAGA events, C3 events, and the Buckeye Border Classic. He also competed in the 2009 Mundials, a very prestigious world Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament. Guevara is very goal-oriented, and aspires to achieve his black belt in the future, as well as to become a World Champion.

Bruce might achieve one of these goals this month, as he will be representing the United States at the FILA Grappling World Championships on December 12-13, 2009. He is entered in the 60 kg/132 lb gi division.

When Bruce is not training, his other hobbies include music, playing the guitar, cars, and economics. He is also a big fan of Mixed Martial Arts, and has considered the option of fighting in the future.
