Gym Renovation at Naperville Facility

We are excited to announce that we will be undergoing a remodeling of our training facility in Naperville, IL this coming August. All told, it will add to our total mat space at the facility by about 25%. This will allow us to better serve our Overtime MMA members and our Overtime School of Wrestling students, both with more space and with more specialized classes.

This renovation will take place in a different room in the existing facility and will not affect the mat space in the existing gym. We will use this new room for both wrestling and mixed martial arts training. Some of your questions are answered below. If you still have questions after you have read through this, please feel welcome to ask our anyone at our front desk .

Is this going to entail opening a new location for Overtime?

No. This will be a renovation of a room that is already in the existing facility in Naperville. Currently, the room is being used by a personal trainer, but this renovation will turn the entire space into a gym area with mats that will be used for training in both mixed martial arts and wrestling.

Why renovate this room?

This second workout area in the facility at Naperville will allow us to better serve the people who use our facility. It will give us opportunities to run more classes during all hours of the day and night, which will allow us to make a more accommodating schedule for our Overtime MMA members and for our Overtime School of Wrestling students . The extra space and separate room will also allow us to offer more specialized classes for athletes of all disciplines.

Will this new training room be used for mixed martial arts disciplines, wrestling, or both?

Both. We welcome your suggestions for scheduling classes and training times in the new exercise area. We will be hashing out the fall schedule in the coming weeks, and we will announce the schedule once it is finalized.

Where is this new training room located?

We are going to renovate the room that is located more or less in the center of the training facility in Naperville. This room runs alongside the parking lot, and it has windows that look out on the parking lot. The interior entrance to this room is the doors that are located across the hall from the entrance to the current gym.

What will the two different exercise areas in the Naperville facility be called?

We're planning on calling the newly renovated training area the "East Gym." The room where we currently train will be called the "West Gym."

What will the new, East Gym in Naperville look like?

There is a link to an artist's 3-D drawing of what the East Gym will look like on our website. It is drawn to scale, with an approximate depiction of the coloring scheme as well. The doors are located where the wall is open in the drawing, on the end near the drinking fountain and the bench.

What will the renovations entail?

As for a brief, written description of the new gym, it will be a complete combat sports training environment. We will be knocking out all of the interior walls in this room to open up the entire space for training. We will be installing new mats on the vast majority of the floor, and there will be enough mat space available to fit a full, international regulation sized wrestling and grappling circle, with at least a couple of feet to spare on all sides. The total mat space in the East Gym will be about 25% of the total mat space of the West Gym. Almost the entire room will be surrounded by six-foot high wall mats. The exception will be one, 11-foot long section of wall located just off of the mats on the end of the gym opposite the entrance, and this section of wall will be covered with a mirror to allow for shadow boxing. The East gym will also have a new HVAC system, a new drinking fountain, and will be fully equipped for training in mixed martial arts and wrestling.

What kind of mat will be used?

We intend to have the surface of the new floor mats covered with a mixed martial arts grip. This surface grip will not have much of an effect on the grip of athletes who train while wearing shoes, but it will allow for better footing for athletes in mixed martial arts disciplines that train barefoot.

Will the West Gym (the gym currently used for training) be shut down for construction?

No. We intend for the construction to take place almost entirely, if not entirely, out of the way of our members and students , and training will not be interrupted. There will be some extra traffic and noise that naturally go along with any construction project, but we do not anticipate any major disruptions to the classes or the normal day-to-day activities at Overtime.

Will this affect the schedule at all for the rest of this summer?

No. The schedule was drawn up with this remodeling project already in the works.

Will the remodeling affect the West Gym at all?

Not much. There will be no structural modifications whatsoever made to the West Gym. There will be a few extra pieces of exercise equipment that will be relocated to the West Gym, and the bleachers in the West Gym will probably be removed to make room for that extra equipment. When we see how the gym is laid out once all of the exercise equipment is in place, we may decide to put in a small set of benches to replace the bleachers, but we do not anticipate any other changes.

When will all of this happen?

We plan on having the remodeling project begin on August 1 and end by August 31. The new, East Gym is expected to be open for training and will have sessions scheduled starting in fall, barring any unforeseen delays.
